I have the hobbit and lord of the rings pocket leather bond set, I've heard it has different words and such to reduce size. I'm curious if anyone knows of differences between this version and others?

I only know there were changes made to Riddles in the Dark in the 1937 Hobbit, where Gollum is actually nice. He offers The Ring to Bilbo for winning the contest, and because he couldn't find it, offered to lead him out.
Gollum offered him the ring? Weird.
Yes, that was the first edition of The Hobbit. Tolkien revised the second edition to bring it more in line with The Lord of the Rings and his re-conception of BIlbo's magic ring into Sauron's Master Ring. Many printings of Tolkien's books have minor changes and corrections to fix typographical errors and other issues. The original printing of The Return of the King did not include the appendices.
I wouldn't say that Gollum was nice. He still wanted to eat Bilbo. He had been taught that the conditions of the riddle game were sacrosanct, so he didn't dare cheat.
