For Christmas I got a LOTR calendar, so I will write the questions for the day. At the end of the day, I will tell the answers.
(It doesn't look like the questions are difficult, but don't blame me ๐)
In what year (in Middle-earth time) does the Trilogy begin?
Fri. Jan 1st
The Trilogy begins with A Long-Expected Party, which took place in T.A. 3001.
Yep! Year 1401 in the Shire Reckoning.
This calendar says it's 3018, or S.R. 1418
(It threw me off too, I think it's talking about the movies)
Thought I might mention it, but this calendar is a quiz for both the movies and the books.
@ShireofMiddleEarth The War of the Ring begins in T.A. 3018; however, the birthday party of Bilbo and Frodo takes place in 3001 (changed in Jackson's films to the year 3000). Your calendar is actually wrong or you misstated the question.
I need to reread the books more often so I can remember that specifically. At this exact moment I'm watching the Rankin Bass's the hobbit.
I got a LOTR movie set for Christmas and was told it was the Extended Edition . . . I was so excited. Then I watched it and it wasn't. :( But a re-watch of the 1977 edition cheered me up.
@ShireofMiddleEarth Not the extended editions? Bummer!
Who are united with Gandalf in Fangorn Forest?
Sat. - Sun 2/3 Jan
I'm sorry I don't understand what you're asking.
Gandalf (now Gandalf the White) is reunited with Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli. In the films, Treebeard also seems to bring Merry and Pippin to him.
Okay, now I'm wondering: Is this general LotR trivia or is it specific to the films?
@andrewlaubacher To your second question, it says "from all three films, as well as the book series"
And the answer to this question is hilarious, as the answer is . . .
"Merry, Pippin and Aragorn"
Wow

I originally read that link as Time Lord Trivia.
What is the name of the Dwarf city?
Mon. Jan. 4
I assume that it means Khazad-dรปm, later known as Moria. However, there is also Erebor in the Lonely Mountain. And in the appendices we have references to Belegost and Nogrod in the Blue Mountains.
The answer is "Dwarrowdelf, or Khazad-dum" but I'll take Moria
Who says, "Your time will come. You will face the same evil, and you will defeat it"?
Tues. Jan. 5
@ShireofMiddleEarth That sounds like a movie quote, Arwen to Aragorn if I remember correctly.
@andrewlaubacher Correct. :)
What is the song that Aragorn sings upon his coronation?
Wed. Jan. 6
What is the name of the reforged sword made of the shards of Narsil?
Fri. Jan. 8
That would be Andรบril, the Flame of the West.
Who "poisoned the mind" of Theoden King?
Sat - Sun. Jan. 9/10
Saruman!
Or is it worm tongue?
Grรญma Wormtongue acting secretly as the agent of Saruman the White.
The answer says Saruman, but Grima was a good guess.
Saruman is a fair answer if they are thinking mainly of the films. But Grima did the actual work in the book.
Sorry I haven't been on in a while so here are all the ones I missed.
Where do Shirefolk find good brown brew?
Mon. Jan. 11
What do the Haradrim ride?
Tues. Jan. 12
Where is Bree located?
Wed. Jan. 13
January 11: There are lots of inns and taverns in the Shire, but The Green Dragon is one of the more prominent ones.
January 12: The Haradrim are known for riding Mรปmakil, known as Oliphaunts by the Shire-folk.
January 13: Bree is located at the crossroads where the Great East-West Road meets the Greenway (the North-South Road). Bree used to be part of the kingdom of Arthedain which itself was once part of Arnor. I didn't even have to look of the spelling for any of that.
That's amazing, all are right.
Who is wielder of the flame of Anor?
Thurs. Jan. 14
'Wielder of the Flame of Anor' is what Gandalf calls himself when he confronts the Balrog of Moria. Anor is Elvish for the Sun.*
* That last bit I did have to look up!
What does Sauron call out to Aragorn to tempt him to the Ring?
Fri. Jan. 15
What does Sam call Aragorn the first time he meets him?
Sat-Sun. Jan. 16/17
Huh, These ones are a bit tougher.
What does Sauron call out to Aragorn to tempt him to the Ring?
I know that Aragorn confronted Sauron using the Seeing Stone of Orthanc, but I don't recall Sauron tempting him to use the Ring.
What does Sam call Aragorn the first time he meets him?
Hmmm. I want to say "Long-shanks".
@andrewlaubacher Yeah Longshanks is correct, but the first one isfrom the movie; it's quiet, but he says "Elessar". Sorry it's been a while, so I'll spend a couple days catching up.

Who rides with Gandalf to save Helm's Deep?
What becomes of Faramir?
Who calls Pippin "Fool of a Took"?
In Return of the King, who does Aragorn offer as a diversion to allow Frodo and Sam the time to destroy the Ring?
What is Merry's full name?
Mon. 18 - Sat./Su.n. 23/24

The line is spoken by Aragorn, but I can't remember the context. (I cheated and had to look that one up!).
