Hey guys and welcome to the HME Forum! We hope you find this a useful place to discuss, theorise, speculate, share and ask questions about all things Tolkien! When we first started HME, our goal was to create a community where people could do just this. We now have our very own platform to do so! As well as a place to share all of our Lore videos! Hopefully you enjoy those as well! π
Feel free to ask myself or James any questions you may have. In the mean time, enjoy the forum! π
Jake
The website looks great guys and thank you for all your work in sharing the lore of middle earth. May I ask what does Gandalf mean when he states in the films he is a servant of the secret fire wielder of the flame of Arnor. Is there a society that isn't mentioned in the Lord of the Ring books, does he have a weapon that isn't mentioned at any other time and that is what helps him defeat the Balrog of Morgoth? Thanks again. Matt
I believe that we don't quite know what the Flame of Anor is, but there are multiple theories that it could be referring to the sun, or the ring that Gandalf wears.
Thanks!! So Anor basically translates to "The Sun". And as far as I can think, this is the only time this is ever mentioned in the books. So it is not actually;y clear what he is talking about. But my guess would be he is referring to his Ring Narya :)
@Jake Rogers so does the ring give him powers to resist fire? as i thought the ring was more about inspiring others like he does it minas tirith and resisting tyranny and despair. Or is the statement more do you think to say you cannot intimidate me I will fight you sort of thing?
It definitely does do that. But it is also said to have "Fire powers" We do not really know what that means. So it is up for speculation I guess :)
could it be by saying he is servant of the secret fire hes just identifying himself as a Maiar? in which case i'm surprised he didn't use his other name of Olorin.
Was smeagol a hobbit? or a blend of different species? That has been a question of mine for a while.
He was a Stoor Hobbit, who lived around rivers.
Glad you guys started this website. I've been watching your YouTube videos for a while now.
Are discussions about other things related to Middle-earth allowed? Stuff like the cartoons and games set in Middle-earth.
Absolutely! There should be a category for most things, if there is not, please request it or just post in general discussion :)
Great to see your new website - looks really impressive! Congratulations! Keep up the good work! You mentioned not long back about what might happen now that Christopher Tolkien had died with regards to the Tolkien collection - do you have any further updates? It would be a shame to see all of his hard work disappear!
Thanks a lot! Glad you're enjoying it :) I believe Christophers son is now in charge of the Tolkien Estate. Not much info is really known right now. All we know is we have the Amazon show to look forward to, hopefully they can get back to working on that again soon!
@Jake Rogers Adam or Simon?
I believe Simon
Jake, James! Celeste Johnston here. Just checking into the forum after the chat! Which was really fun BTW. Yeah we use Roll20 every week for mostly pathfinder games. But an online game of Middle Earth would be fun!
On a different note at any time you guys are thinking of a short film I have done theatrical costuming for years and can costume on REALLY tight budgets $500 or less!! The only problem would be getting myself from California to South Wales. Probably not workable but just thought I would put the thought in your heads!
Hey Celeste!! Great to hear from you as always! We will be looking into Roll20 for sure! Are there any videos of games that you have bee involved in online? That's really cool to hear that you have worked in costuming! Maybe a bit of a distance issue though... but who knows, we may end up filming in the States!! π
Jake!
I don't think there are any videos of us. I game with friends across the States and my friend in New Mexico is the one with the GM account on Roll20. He sets up the games.
Distance is always a problem! Darn it! π If only we had Star Trek transporter technology!!! As it says on my Twitter bio. "Will Costume for Food!" LOL!
