I needed to have a creative outlet during Lockdown one, to keep me sane whilst looking after my three little darlings so started writing some LOTR fanfiction and it kind of ran away with me. It the first time I have ever written anything other than the odd the small play for schoolchildren or community project. I have taken the plunge and started to put it on Wattpad, it is only an exercise but I would love some feedback on how to improve my writing/storytelling as I have quite enjoyed the process and escapism from the mundane world. It is a working progress so I am improving on it all the time.
Cool! I haven't written fanfiction in a long time.
I'll admit, I'm not sure how I feel about the idea of a Maia becoming embodied by being born to a mortal woman. David and Leigh Eddings made the idea work with the daughter of their characters Sparhawk and his queen, but I'm not sure it works for Tolkien's Middle-earth.
I do have a story I wrote about BIlbo's mother before she was wed. "The Sisters and the Sea" is set to be published in the next issue of the Open Minds webzine.
I think that's a valid comment, my character was simply going to be mortal but then the long term story arc didn't feel right and making the character Maia actually worked better. It's kind of like mirroring the wizards. But she has to relearn everything as well. The Character has to contend with the limitations of her situation. If that makes sense.
Considering I've written a story about my MERP character, who happened to be Elrond's fourth child, I've done something similar. I'm not averse to a little creativity.
Well, I'm in no position to complain about derivative characters, not when I've had such AD&D characters as a paladin named Harlock and a rogue/investigator John "GrimJack" Gaunt.
