This comes from a theory I heard many years ago and relies off the 1 line 'fly now you fools' being a cryptic/hasty message as to how to proceed. what are your thoughts?

What do people think of the theory that Gandalf had planned to actually use the eagles to fly the ring to Mordor?

Fly can mean flee. In this case, Gandalf was telling the others to escape Moria while they could.
that is how i would normally interpret it i just thought the use of eagles who pretty much have command of the air would have been an interesting take.
I think the main thing to understand about the Eagles is that the movies made it seem that Gandalf can hail Eagles like Ubers. (He doesn't whisper to moths in the books) They are talking sentient beings who do as they please and just happened to have been in certain places at certain times. Radagast did converse with them but that's it from what I understand. Anyone else who wants to correct or help me with the answer, I welcome it .
I hope this helps 💚
As a mission that was suposed to stay as hidden as possible, carrying the ring in an eagle the size of a whole fulball stadium (soccer if you will) i tend to think as a bad idea. Besides, why dont take the eagles from the other side of the mountains, from rivendell, or not telling anyone thats the path to take, if he really wanted to take the eagles wouldnt say the path of the south takes them too close to isengard (at least I wouldnt) intead say, its too far from the eagles.
If the eagles had ahold of the ring, they would be Middle Earth-shattering. They'd be worse than the Nazgul and more terrifying.
I think it’s very wrong. Eagles are not Gandal’s personal Limos!
