Amazon has been talking about created as many as five spin offs (maybe more!) from their Lord of the Rings series. What shows and/or movies would you like to see beyond the main series?
For me, I'd like to see "The Tale of Aragorn and Awen" adapted into a long-form series, a miniseries or an animated direct-to-video movie. Tolkien's short story "Aldarion and Erendis" ("The Mariner's Wife") could also be made into a limited series or a movie. Lastly, a full series could be made from the events of the middle of the Third Age: the Rise of Angmar; its war against the North Kingdoms; the Fall of Arthedain; and the end of the rule of the kings of Gondor.
There is no one right answer. What do you want to see?
Maybe the Elves of Eregion and the forging of the Rings of Power, although that ending is sure to be a downer.
I'm not sure about that as a spin off as that is all but certain to be in the main show.
If the producers are given some free rein, how about filling in the details of Eldarion* as he grows up and becomes king.
* No, my handle wasn't named after Aragorn's son. I used that name for one of my MERP characters.
I'd like for Beren and Luthien to be made a movie or a tv show (hopefully a movie). :)
That could be epic if Amazon Prime could get rights to the story.
Maybe have a few episodes starring Faramir and Eowyn.
Do you mean like a miniseries? There's not much from Tolkien about the couple after the War of the Ring, so I'm not sure where Amazon would go with that. But they are going to have to invent a lot of details and even major characters for their Second Age series as well.
It might even work better to have Faramir and Éowyn as part of a more ambitious series set in the early Fourth Age. The show might be principally about King Elessar's struggles to bring a lasting peace to the Reunited Kingdoms and their former enemies.
I was thinking early Fourth Age, so the writers have a bit of leeway.
How about the story of Aegnor and Andreth? That one isn't as well-known as Beren and Luthien.
A tragic tale of unrequited love between Elf and daughter of Man? Yes, it is obscure; I had to look it up myself. I could see it as a done-in-one, but I'm not sure about getting permission to lift it from the book Morgoth's Ring.
