Dior's Sons, Eluréd and Elurín, Elrond's uncles are said to have been left in the forest to starve. Then Maedhros went looking for them and could not find them and it is assumed that they died. But without proof of this how can anyone be sure? Tolkien Gateway hints they may have survived, I kind of go with this as no bodies as said to have been found. My Theory is that they most likely hid from Maedhros, they were frightened, little kids. Survived somehow and most likely changed their names, elves are known to do that. But what do people think?

If Eluréd and Elurín were rescued by birds to settle in Ossiriand, it seems likely that they would have later perished as a result of the War of Wrath. However, I agree that the brothers could have taken new names and perhaps lived into the Second Age.
Is it possible that they took the gift of men after what happened to them? perhaps their descendants are alive in Middle earth somewhere. I think that might be plausible too. I think it would be interesting if they were rescued by birds and later men. Choosing to become mortal when they came of age, I feel a plot bunny coming on lol.
Was the Choice of the Peredhil granted to the sons of Dior? I'm not sure that they could have chosen to live as mortal Men.
Hmm good point it was offered to Eärendil and his decedents, still if they did survive It would be interesting to think of what may have happened to them.
The Valar didn't know about Dior and his family, since Earendil had not yet set sail to Valinor. So Dior and his kin likely would not have been given the choice.
